GHOST of CHRISTMAS Past BRINA KAY
Where are you located now and where are you originally from?
I'm originally from Schaumburg Illinois, which is a suburb about an hour away from Chicago. I then move to Lincoln Nebraska for college (Go Big Red) and then upon graduation moved to Nashville Tennessee to pursue a music career. Who has been your greatest influence? My greatest Influence has been Natalie Maines and The Chicks. As a young girl, seeing a group of three strong women become so successful made me believe that I could be too. Then, when Natalie spoke out on an issue she believed was important, that also inspired me to do the same, and I have always been very bold with my writing regarding my thoughts on political issues and I do my best to use my platform for good even it might upset some people. What is your latest and greatest? I am so excited to be releasing a brand new song called "Ghost of Christmas Past" at midnight eastern on Halloween. I wrote this song around Halloween last year with my producer Mike Anderson and singer/songwriter Olivia Frances. The song is about how the memories of a lost love can haunt you during the holidays. The production process was very cool and we added a lot of creepy details. This is one of the coolest projects I've been a part of and I can't wait for it to be released! What are you most looking forward to in 2021? I am looking forward to hopefully getting back to playing live shows and recording my EP What would you say to your younger self if you could? One day you'll love how big your hair is and people will celebrate your creativity and enthusiasm. Stay true to yourself and don't let anyone dull your sparkle. On a scale from ONE to TEN, how driven are you? 11 How much do you believe LUCK plays a role in success? I'd say luck is only achievable if there is also initiative involved. For example, I was lucky to meet a producer at a BBQ who did my first song for me for free when I had just lost my day job and had no money. But, if I hadn't taken the initiative to move to Nashville and pursue my dreams even when I didn't have it all figured out, that never would have happened. If I had decided I was too tired for networking and just stayed home and watched Netflix instead, it would have never happened. If I hadn't followed up with him on his offer and set a date to meet up again, it never would have happened. You need to do the work and put yourself in the position to get a lucky break. When you do that, you'll find yourself getting lucky more and more frequently. How can we stay up to date with you? Please go to brinakaymusic.com and sign up for my email list.
