Katie Belle on Her Music and Motivation!

Hello Katie Belle! It is great to speak with you today!

Hey!! Thank you so much for having me!

What is your songwriting process like for your music?

My songwriting process is kind of different every time. It always stems off of real-life events but the process changes. I'll have lyrics in mind or a melody but it doesn't always all come at once, once i get one thing the rest usually follows. I never put to much pressure on my ideas beforehand because i always want the creating process to be as raw and genuine as possible.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

This question always comes with such a loaded answer for me but i'll only dive into a little bit of it for now because i could talk about influences all day. I truly love Taylor Swift as a song writer and overall performer, but i look back as far as Etta James and Frank Sinatra for lyrical/musical inspiration. I love Fleetwood Mac and Miley Cyrus, Al Green and Kelly Clarkson. I grew up with such a mix of influence, i like to think i have a little bit of it all inside me. I know music is my "career" but as a fan, I find something i like about everyone.

Do you remember the first time you realized you wanted to pursue music as a career?

I was so young... and its so funny because i just told this story last night, but my first time i realized i belonged on stage was in 4th grade. I had gotten my first lead in the school play and i got that 15 minute of fame by connecting with the crowd and really singing my heart out... i realized i needed 15 million minutes more of it. A fire was lit that night that hasn't gone out since.

What has been one of your favorite or most surreal moments of your career so far?

American Idol was pretty ground breaking for me. But honestly nothing beats some of the personal revelations i've had about my life and myself because of the path i've chosen. I've conquered so many fears, learned, live

Who are some of the artists currently inspiring you? I love Dua Lipa right now, She's like my queen. Her whole pop disco dance thing is so cool and catchy, i would love to write with her one day or be on a feature.

What do you do when you have writer's block or a creative block? Any go-to ways to shake yourself out of it? I never try to force it too hard. I personally always connect with music/ writing the most when i'm truly, emotionally feeling it. Im emotional, so its never too hard for me to tap into feelings that will inspire me to write. But if i'm ever truly just not feeling it or in the mood i'll wait until the words find me.

Do you have a piece of advice that you would give someone just starting out in the music world? Always always always trust your gut.

So many times, i knew a deal or a situation wasn't right and i trusted the people around me to handle it when ultimately, they didn't know right from left. If you feel like a show or a contract or a relationship isn't right, trust yourself and get out. There's a lot of deceit in this industry, it's unfortunate but its fact, you have to learn to rely on yourself and be your biggest ally.

What do you hope to see in the music world as the industry continues to evolve? I hope sometime soon we go back to recording more with live Instruments!! I can appreciate that technology is so forward, but as a musician i wish some of our techniques were still in the past. History always repeats itself so i hope live instruments in pop music is one of those things.

Any upcoming projects you want us to know about? I have a single called Don't! Releasing friday June 24th!!! I'm freshly single and this is my new breakup track so i'm super excited for everyone to hear it
