MAGAZINE GIRLS with RACHEL JACK
Where are you located now and where are you originally from?
I am from the Northeast part of Scotland - a little town called Aberdeen and I live there now!
Who has been your greatest influence?
I'm influenced by all different styles of pop music. I started with a more acoustic sound and now I'm experimenting with electronic stuff. I don’t want to be the kind of musician that makes the same kind of music all the time. I think it's so important to write and play what you feel - that's what makes music exciting!
We all have times when we’re happy, when we’re sad, when we’re chilled - it’s all different emotions and the sound of the song changes depending on what we're feeling.
At the end of the day, music is very expensive to make and the genre that you choose is largely dependent on your budget and your skills at least in the indie musician world. I look forward to expanding to bigger sounds outside of what I'm doing now once I've gained enough traction.
As far as actual artists that inspire me, I'm always drawn to storytellers - Dolly Parton for instance. Artists that have something to say and they don't say it like anyone else.
What is your latest and greatest?
I released the single "Magazine Girls" in early October so I'm excited about that one! It talks about how the girls in magazines aren't real but we still try to be that level of unattainable perfection.
What are you most looking forward to in 2021?
As soon as the EP is out, I'm looking forward to performing live throughout the summer to promote it. I'm really hoping that's a possibility soon. I want to be a musician that exists without the internet!
How can we stay up to date with you?
You can find me on all major social platforms @rachellojack, and I always post updates on my website https://www.racheljack.co.uk/.
