Of Thank You with Kendra Muecke

Thank you for spending some time with us today! Tell us about your latest creative endeavor!

Thank you for inviting me to interview! My most recent project is my third album titled, "of Thank You". It was released on September 25, 2020.

The album is rooted in psychedelic folk-rock Americana. It's a concept album in many ways, where I propose the question, "Who are we? Where do we come from? Where would we like to go? How can we achieve this as free and loving people?" On the project, I feature musicians from around the country including artists from the rock scene in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Boulder, and Houston. I also collaborated with the electronic artist, All Shapes, on a music video showcasing the starry-eyed brightness of Hollywood. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/2sYdmY3xdrc

On a scale from 1-10… How driven are you?

11! I am absolutely driven! I wake up each day seeking to reach my next goal post. I am also always thinking about capturing creative content, gathering inspiration for new songs, and networking with fellow artists and producers to collaborate with! I am also driven in my personal and spiritual life. I focus on feeling more secure and grounded in my life by bringing actions to my thoughts, creating manifestations of my dreams. Many friends and fans of mine have said they have been inspired to follow their dreams too.

What is your spirit animal and why?

I am going to name two spirit animals. My animal totem is the bunny rabbit. It's something that has been a guiding light for much of my existence.

I have hare-raising energy that expands more and more over time. I am inquisitive like the rabbit and seek clarity on understanding philosophy; this is represented through the character of the White Rabbit. My spirit animal is the buffalo. This represents prophecies of peace throughout ancient tales, freedom of the great American west, and traveling in packs / respecting community. The great buffalo and the prophecy of the White Buffalo Calf Woman were actually the main inspiration for my newest album, "of Thank You". I am grateful for my spirit animals' guidance.

What was the first experience in your life, when you knew you were destined for this career path?

I actually decided I wanted to be a movie-star, performer, singer at age 4. I started studying in musical theatre at that age.

I have always been passionate about the theatre and performing on stage. It influenced so many experiences and years of my life. I am all about the connection of self to our own art. To a certain degree, it feels like I perform even in my day to day life since I have always been an actress, quite literally.

How important is “luck” in your career?

Luck is being in alignment with your highest good, your dreams/aspirations, and the opportunities brought to you. We can align with this through emotion, thought, planning, action, and follow-through. Surround yourself with people you look up to in your field and share guidance with those who look up to you. Luck is in the eye-of-the-beholder. The balance between proper placement of intention and perfect timing. That's luck to me.

So luck is everything and nothing. The journey is what it is -- and I am grateful.

What have you found to be 100% true about success?

The freedom that comes with achieving accomplishments in our careers is very empowering. I get to choose my future by channeling the success I've had into more future manifestations. Success brings success. Opportunities create opportunities. Personal freedom in my career and life brings joy (from my perspective).

If you could meet any successful person in your career who would it be and why?

Sia. She went from an indie singer-songwriter to a globally known pop star. I would love to speak to her about that journey. The story behind the steps that brought her to international success must be so interesting. I would also love to speak to her about her album 'Some People Have Real Problems' and her experience with recovery/healing from alcohol use. She speaks about this in her song "Chandelier".
