THE POWER OF 'POWER LINES' WITH KILO TANGO
The power force of a Singer/ Songwriter Kilo Tango talks new album 'Power Lines', pausing and processing!
How does your music affect the world?
For me, writing music is how I understand myself, how I see and feel the world. I think it's such a special thing when you can connect to someone else's perspective and peek inside someone else’s world. I’m not exactly sure how my music affects the world but it's just something that I strongly feel like I was meant to do and hopefully it can be enjoyed.
Who has been your biggest cheerleader as an artist?
My family is very supportive of me. My older brother has always been very encouraging towards me. We both share a love for music and like a lot of the same bands/artists. I credit him for introducing me to a lot of the artists that influenced me to start playing music. When I first started writing songs I would send him every single one haha. It was a lot! And they were all really terrible, cheesy songs about boys so I can imagine what he thought about those but he would always be like”This is amazing!”
Tell us about your latest release!
I am releasing an album called Power Lines on February 26! I wrote and recorded it at home during quarantine. This time has forced me to slow down and really come to terms with parts of myself that I had lost. It was a rough year for everyone this year and it really forced me to pause and sit with my emotions, process events that I hadn’t dealt with, and just be alone. I feel very grateful to have had this time to really write and take my time with these songs. I am so excited to release these songs and I am very proud of it.
What have been your greatest challenges as an artist?
I think the anxiety of not knowing whether or not this is going to be my career. I mean, I really don’t have a backup plan and it’s scary. It’s a weird thing because you can’t force it and I don’t know if it will ever work out, but I know that if I have this intense of a desire to write and play music, then it can’t just be for nothing.
What have been your greatest achievements as an artist?
I am most proud of how much I have grown in my songwriting. And I think you can see that on this record. I started writing songs when I was 18 and have experimented with a lot of different styles and sounds. It took me a long time to figure out what my personal style of music was and I feel like I am coming into my own more now.
How do you find peace in an often chaotic world?
I have to remind myself that I have a lot to be grateful for. I have a roof over my head and food in my fridge so life is good! I love being at home, cooking, reading, going for hikes, going to the beach, spending time with friends and family, and going to thrift stores is my therapy haha.
What does "making it" mean to you?
To me, it really only matters if I am happy with the quality of music I am making and if I am being completely true to myself.
